CHAPTER 16

Jake spent most of the morning and the afternoon shadow boxing with his arousal. He wanted to simply watch porn and rub one out, but each time he sat down with the intention of doing so, his mind pulled him in directions he didn't want to go in. It felt like watching any of the copious amounts of porn targeted at people with similar taboo attractions would only cement his perversions into permanence.

He knew he was probably being overdramatic. It was less about a fear of being tainted and more of the fear of being caught, he supposed. His mother would probably have a mostly open mind, as a therapist. Jaimie would torment him and never let him live it down. Kate would...

Fuck. Kate. He looked at the clock and realized he'd whiled away the day. If he wanted to be on time to pick her up, he needed to get moving.

He hurried downstairs and grabbed his keys. Rebecca was sitting at the kitchen table, still listening to her audiobook with her laptop open. She waved to him and blew a kiss as he hurried over to the front door.

"Ride safe," she said.

"I will. Enjoy your audiobook."

She smiled and nodded. The section of the book currently playing featured two characters flirting dangerously with one another and he couldn't help but notice how flushed his mother's cheeks were.

He put on his helmet and wheeled his bike out of the garage. He made sure the second helmet was in the cargo net for Katie, started it up, and set off.

The cold air on his face had a sobering effect on his mood and outlook. He was spending too much time at home, in the house. That was the real issue - sheer proximity to three gorgeous, intelligent, and potentially sexually devious women.

He needed to get a job and make some new friends. A girlfriend, specifically. Someone who could hold his attention, if not entirely outcompete the moments that created those little illicit impulses to begin with.

He was running a little late to pick up Kate and had to speed a bit to make it on time. A long line of cars was already queued in the pickup lane and he took his place at the end, slowly waddling his bike forward as each one took a generous amount of time picking up their teenage charge.

He took off his helmet right before it was his turn on the strip. Kate appeared outside the school's front doors after a minute or so. He'd expected to see her similarly distraught to how she'd been the previous day and was ready to swoop in if needed to forcibly chase off her bullies. With Kate, he at least felt honorable, like a proper big brother defending her as needed and as appropriate.

She was walking with somebody, not one of the girls from the previous day as far as Jake could tell, but another senior with a blonde braid and sunglasses. Kate waved to the girl as she walked off, laughing at something she said and looking uncertainly toward Jake.
